Native, Invader: A Response.

Art in Bloom is held biennially by the Friends of the Art Gallery to raise funds for purchase of new acquisitions for the State Art Collection. Participants are asked to respond to an artwork using plants and flowers as the medium. The event attracts in excess of 20,000 visitors to the gallery.

The painting I was asked to respond to was Yagan by Julie Dowling. I wanted attempt to recreate the tension evident in the artwork by portraying a territorial stand-off of a dingo and a sheep dog. The plants are native sheoak and introduced silver dollar eucalypt.
